About Me

Welcome to Planks and Planes! I’m Samantha, 20-something year old living in Southern California since birth. I am an analyst by day, fitness instructor by night and a traveler always. If we were meeting in person I would suggest we meet at Starbucks because my love for a Skinny Macchiato runs deep. During the summer you can find me at the beach while the mountains call my name in the winter. My biggest cheerleader is my husband who supports me in every crazy idea I have. He joins me in every race I complete, attends all of my group fitness classes and lets me plan multiple trips at a time. My daughter Emma is the light of my life. Stating this to people often results in people asking me how old she is. Then I must fumble over my words explaining she is actually my English Bulldog, not an actual child.

I am a certified group fitness instructor. I currently teach at two gyms where I am certified for Cycle, Bootcamp and Body Works. My teaching job helps support my fitness and traveling hobbies. Teaching is such a rewarding passion. I love being able to motivate and push others during their workout which I hope will also inspire you. I’ve completed numerous races but between 5ks, triathlons and most recently half marathons, I am still working to find my personal sweet spot in racing. This year I have my sights set on finally conquering the full marathon.

Wanderlust is one of my favorite words because it is the perfect description of my strongest desires in life. I got my first passport less than 2 years ago so I am making up for lost time.  Once I experienced my first international trip I realized I will never be the same. Traveling is definitely a past, present and future hobby for me. While coming off the high from my most recent trip, I start the planning of my next trip while making a list to pick where I want to convince the husband we should go next. At a minimum I aim to take one domestic trip and one international each year. I’ve been fortunate to exceed this so far with planning, budgeting and lots of research!

Why Planks and Planes? The blog name is a perfect combination of two of my loves: Fitness and Travel. I started Planks and Planes to document my workouts, races and trips. Creating workouts, sharing my enthusiasm for fitness and inciting passion for travel make me happy. My hope is this blog will pass on some of my happiness to you.
